Description: |
The Coin Hunt 2 is a small, gimmicky hack in which each level's objective is to collect all coins. You'd better hurry up, though, as you're constantly low on time! As the name may imply it's a sequel to The Coin Hunt, a 2009 hack of mine similar in length and spirit. The Coin Hunt was deliberately styled like a Game Boy game, and thus featured black-and-white graphics. For the sequel I had always planned to (seemingly) move to a more advanced system — that's why The Coin Hunt 2 is styled like an NES game, featuring 8-bit graphics and an overall simplistic design. Enjoy! |

This was very quick to beat. Though, still very fun and great to kill a few minutes if you're bored or so!
I've always liked the gimmick of collecting coins to advance or beat stages something very clever, and then again, the gimmick was very well used on this sequel. Level design in general was simple, but very fitting with the gimmick, something I really liked in the hack overall. The graphics choice gave a nice feeling of a NES game, the music choice was fitting as well, even if it wasn't an exact replica from the original songs. I don't have much to say since it was a very short hack, but I can assure it's fun to play.
I'll accept the hack eventually. Userbase is free to make reviews for the hack.

Nice hack. I really enjoyed this one. Short review due to a short hack.
Firstly, I am really impressed with the concept here. For those of you who are not familiar with the first hack The Coin Hunt, the objective was to collect all the coins in a short time period before the time runs out. This hack takes the concept even further. I noticed many new gimmicks and such. One of the most notable ones is that you have Mario and Luigi at your disposal and you have to use them to clear each of the levels. This concept isn't new but it works really well nonetheless. The level design starts off quite simple in a manner of jumping around but each player's ability adds a twist to the level and I am really impressed with it as it allowed creative ideas with the level design despite it revolving around one single concept. Well done for that WhiteYoshiEgg. In the castle, Mario and Luigi must solve different sublevels until you reach a boss battle which is of reasonable difficulty. Good job.
One notable feature is that this hack is NES styled and has notable features such as SMB3 graphics for the most part. The music despite it not being 8-bit fits really well for the most part and I am impressed. The overworld is simple but the situation in this hack is different so I will let you off on that one.
Important: Unplug or configure controller 2 if you're not using ZSNES while playing Luigi's levels. WhiteYoshiEgg explained it here so please keep that in mind before saying it is a compatibility problem.

A very short and simple hack, yet the concept is very good. I especially like the player-specific abilities, and the way the special levels are hidden (no spoilers here, move away
).
The graphical style and aesthetics in general are notably simple, which fits this hack very nicely. Good job on keeping consistency, too!
The soundrack isn't very wide and the songs are very basic, which reinforced even more the "simplicity" feel of this hack.
